Description

A creamy and cheesy macaroni and cheese recipe that combines sharp cheddar and Parmesan for a comforting dish perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Cook the macaroni: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, letting it cool slightly.
  2. Make the cheese sauce: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until it froths. Stir in the flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, cooking until a smooth paste forms.
  3. Add milk gradually: Slowly pour in the milk while stirring constantly, helping to eliminate lumps. Keep stirring until the mixture thickens to a creamy consistency, about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Melt the cheeses: Once thickened, remove the saucepan from heat and add the shredded cheddar and grated Parmesan. Stir until both cheeses melt completely into the sauce.
  5. Combine: Gently fold the cheese sauce into the drained macaroni, ensuring every piece is coated.
  6. Serve: Dish your macaroni and cheese into warm bowls and enjoy immediately while the cheese is still gooey and inviting.

Notes

For a crispy topping, you can bake the macaroni and cheese at 350°F (175°C) until bubbly and golden brown. Customize with your favorite mix-ins.
