Description

A warm and inviting Italian bread infused with herbs and gooey cheese, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian herbs (e.g., oregano, basil, thyme)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Prepare the yeast mixture: In a large bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow this mixture to sit for about 5-10 minutes until it bubbles.
  2. Combine the ingredients: Add the olive oil, flour, salt, Italian herbs, and garlic powder to the bubbly yeast mixture. Stir until a rough dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Let it rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and allow it to rise for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  5. Preheat the oven: Set the oven to preheat at 375°F (190°C) while you shape your bread.
  6. Shape the dough: Once risen, punch the dough down gently, and shape it into a loaf.
  7. Prepare for baking: Place the shaped dough onto a baking sheet (or into a loaf pan) and sprinkle generously with the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  8. Second rise: Cover the dough again and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Bake: Slide your bread into the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  10. Cool and enjoy: Once baked, allow the bread to cool on a wire rack before slicing into it.

Notes

Feel free to swap out the cheese or use fresh herbs to customize your loaf.
