Ingredients
You only need four ingredients to make these easy cottage cheese bagels.
- 1 cup cottage cheese β Creates a creamy base while adding protein and moisture to the dough. Blending it first removes the curds and creates a smooth consistency.
- 2 large eggs β Add additional protein, moisture, richness, and structure.
- 1Β½ cups self-rising flour β Provides the flour and leavening needed to give the bagels their structure and rise without yeast.
- Β½ tsp salt β Enhances the savory flavor of the dough.
Optional Egg Wash
If you’d like a shinier, more golden surface, lightly brush the shaped bagels with a little beaten egg before baking.
Instructions
These four-ingredient bagels require just a few easy steps.
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent the bagels from sticking.
Step 2: Blend the Cottage Cheese and Eggs
Add the cottage cheese and eggs to a blender or food processor.
Blend until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy.
Blending is important because it eliminates the cottage cheese curds and creates a uniform base for the dough.
Step 3: Make the Dough
Transfer the blended cottage cheese mixture to a large mixing bowl.
Add the self-rising flour and salt.
Stir gently until the ingredients come together and form a soft, slightly sticky dough.
Avoid excessive mixing once the dough has formed.
Step 4: Divide the Dough
Lightly flour your hands to prevent sticking.
Divide the dough into 4 equal portions.
Keeping the portions approximately equal will help the bagels bake at the same rate.
Step 5: Shape the Bagels
Take one portion of dough and gently roll it into a smooth rope.
Bring the two ends together and press them firmly to create a bagel shape.
Repeat with the remaining portions.
Place all four shaped bagels onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them.
Step 6: Add an Optional Egg Wash
For a more golden finish, lightly brush the tops with beaten egg.
This step is optional and isn’t necessary for the recipe to work.
Step 7: Bake
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven.
Bake for 22β26 minutes, or until the bagels are puffed, cooked through, and lightly golden on top.
Step 8: Cool Before Slicing
Remove the bagels from the oven and allow them to cool for 5β10 minutes.
This short cooling period helps the interior finish setting and makes the bagels easier to slice.
Serve warm or slice and toast before adding your favorite toppings.
