Description
A stunning and delicious appetizer featuring a crispy, golden-brown onion that blooms into an indulgent masterpiece perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large onion
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Cooking spray
- Dipping sauce of your choice
Instructions
- Cut and prepare: Start by cutting the top off the onion and peeling away the outer layer. Carefully slice the onion into petals, making sure not to cut all the way through the base.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Dip the prepared onion into the buttermilk, allowing it to soak up the creamy goodness.
- Coat with the flour mixture, ensuring each petal gets a delicious dose of flavor.
- Double dip the onion back into the buttermilk before rolling it in the breadcrumbs for a crunchy exterior.
- Air fry the coated onion at 375°F (190°C) for approximately 20-25 minutes until golden brown and crunchy.
- Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauce.
Notes
For best results, refrigerate the onion after the second step until ready to fry. This recipe can also be adapted for baking.
