- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups apple pie filling
- Oil for frying
- 1/2 cup sugar for coating
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon for coating
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In another bowl, mix together the buttermilk, applesauce, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Carefully combine the wet and dry mixtures until just incorporated.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fill a piping bag with the doughnut batter and pipe rounds into the hot oil, frying only a few at a time.
- Fry for approximately 2–3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Once golden, drain the doughnuts on paper towels.
- Use a piping bag to fill each doughnut with apple pie filling.
- In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon for the coating and roll each doughnut in it.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
