Ingredients
Here’s a breakdown of what goes into this incredibly simple recipe and why each ingredient matters.
- 2 cups self-rising flour — Contains built-in leavening agents (baking powder and salt), eliminating the need for yeast or additional rising agents.
- 1½ cups plain Greek yogurt — Provides moisture, tang, and protein, helping create a soft, tender dough without the need for eggs, butter, or milk.
- Optional: Melted butter for brushing the tops — Adds richness and a soft, flavorful finish to the baked rolls.
Instructions
This recipe comes together in just a handful of simple steps. Here’s exactly how to make it.
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
Add the self-rising flour and Greek yogurt to a large bowl. Stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels excessively sticky, add a small amount of flour, one tablespoon at a time.
Lightly flour your hands and work surface. Turn the dough out and gently knead for about 30–60 seconds, just until it comes together smoothly. Avoid over-kneading, which can make the rolls tougher.
Divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion gently into a ball and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each roll.
Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the rolls are puffed and lightly golden on top. For a softer, buttery finish, brush the hot rolls with melted butter immediately after removing them from the oven.
Let the rolls cool for about 5 minutes before serving. They’re especially delicious while still warm!
