Description

Delight in the classic flavor of homemade molasses pull taffy, capturing the essence of nostalgia and warmth with each chewy bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups molasses
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine molasses, sugar, butter, water, and salt in a large saucepan. Stir gently to mix the ingredients well.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring consistently until the mixture reaches a boil.
  3. Allow the mixture to continue boiling until it reaches the hard ball stage, which is about 250°F (120°C) on your candy thermometer.
  4. Remove the pan from heat and let it cool slightly for a few minutes.
  5. Butter your hands generously before handling the warm taffy.
  6. Begin to pull and stretch the candy until it shifts to a glossy hue and becomes noticeably lighter—this should take around 10 to 15 minutes.
  7. Shape the taffy into a log, then let it cool completely before cutting into bite-sized pieces.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. If taffy hardens, wrap it in a damp paper towel and microwave briefly to soften.
