Description

Delicious homemade jelly donuts, crispy on the outside with a fruity jam filling, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup fruit jam or jelly (like raspberry or strawberry)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar or granulated sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Mix it all together: Pour in the yeast mixture, eggs, and melted butter. Stir until a shaggy dough begins to form.
  4. Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. Let it rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, until doubled.
  6. Shape the donuts: Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness, cut circles, fill half with jam, and seal with another circle.
  7. Fry the donuts: Heat oil to 350°F and fry donuts until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes each.
  8. Drain and dust: Place donuts on paper towels and roll in powdered sugar while warm.
  9. Serve and enjoy: Indulge in these warm donuts with extra jam for dipping.

Notes

For a healthier option, bake the donuts at 350°F for 10-12 minutes instead of frying.
