Description
Delicious homemade jelly donuts, crispy on the outside with a fruity jam filling, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk, warmed
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup fruit jam or jelly (like raspberry or strawberry)
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar or granulated sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt.
- Mix it all together: Pour in the yeast mixture, eggs, and melted butter. Stir until a shaggy dough begins to form.
- Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Let it rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, until doubled.
- Shape the donuts: Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness, cut circles, fill half with jam, and seal with another circle.
- Fry the donuts: Heat oil to 350°F and fry donuts until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes each.
- Drain and dust: Place donuts on paper towels and roll in powdered sugar while warm.
- Serve and enjoy: Indulge in these warm donuts with extra jam for dipping.
Notes
For a healthier option, bake the donuts at 350°F for 10-12 minutes instead of frying.
