A delicious twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich, infused with the rich flavors of French onion soup.
Ingredients

- 4 slices of bread
- 2 cups of caramelized onions
- 1 cup of Gruyère cheese, shredded
- 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 4 tablespoons of butter
- 1 teaspoon of thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Caramelize the onions in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown.
- Mix the Gruyère and mozzarella cheese in a bowl.
- Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
- On the unbuttered side, layer caramelized onions and cheese mixture.
- Top with another slice of bread, buttered side up.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and grill the sandwich until golden brown on both sides and cheese is melted.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a splash of balsamic vinegar to the onions while caramelizing.
- Use sourdough or rye bread for a different taste.
