Description
A classic French dessert, the Chocolate Yule Log (Bûche de Noël) is a rich chocolate cake rolled with a creamy filling, perfect for holiday celebrations.

- 4 large eggs
- 100g granulated sugar
- 100g all-purpose flour
- 30g unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 200g dark chocolate, chopped
- 200ml heavy cream
- 50g powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Chocolate shavings for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk the eggs and granulated sugar until pale and fluffy.
- Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt, then fold into the egg mixture.
- Pour the batter onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until the cake springs back when touched.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before rolling it up in the parchment paper.
- For the filling, melt the dark chocolate and let it cool slightly.
- In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until soft peaks form.
- Fold the melted chocolate into the whipped cream until well combined.
- Unroll the cooled cake, spread the chocolate filling evenly, and roll it back up carefully.
- Transfer to a serving platter and frost with remaining filling, then decorate with chocolate shavings.
Notes
- Make sure to roll the cake while it’s still warm to prevent cracking.
- You can add a splash of coffee or liqueur to the filling for extra flavor.
- This dessert can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
