  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. Combine the sourdough starter, flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix gently.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips carefully to maintain fluffiness.
  6. Scoop the batter into the prepared muffin tin, filling each liner about 2/3 full.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool in the tin for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider using Dutch-process cocoa powder. To store, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or freeze for up to three months.
