Description
A comforting classic, chicken fried steak features tenderized beef coated in a crunchy breading, topped with rich and creamy country gravy.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 Tenderized Beef Steaks
- 1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 Teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1/2 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 2 Eggs
- 1 Cup Buttermilk
- Oil for Frying
- 1/2 Cup Milk
- 1/4 Cup Chicken Broth
- 2 Tablespoons Butter
- 2 Tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
- Salt and Pepper to Taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Breading Stations: In one mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk until smooth.
- Coat the Steaks: Take each tenderized steak and dip it into the buttermilk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Then, dredge the steak in the flour mixture, pressing it in gently. Set aside on a wire rack to let the coating adhere.
- Fry the Steaks: In a cast iron skillet, heat about an inch of oil over medium-high heat. Once shimmering, carefully lower each coated steak into the oil. Fry until golden brown, approximately 4-5 minutes per side. Drain the fried steaks on paper towels.
- Make the Gravy: Remove excess oil from the skillet, leave about two tablespoons. Melt the butter, whisk in the flour, and cook for about a minute. Gradually whisk in the milk and chicken broth, stirring constantly until thickened, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Serve: Pour the rich gravy over the crispy steaks and enjoy!
Notes
Allow the breaded steaks to rest for a few minutes before frying. For a healthier twist, consider using an air fryer.
