Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, heat milk and butter until warm. Remove from heat and stir in sugar and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and egg, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar, corn syrup, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into a greased baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle chopped pecans over the caramel mixture in the baking dish.
  7. Roll out the dough and spread with butter, then sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon if desired.
  8. Roll the dough tightly and cut into slices. Place the slices in the baking dish over the caramel and pecans.
  9. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Let cool slightly before serving, then invert onto a serving platter.
