- 2 pounds potatoes (Russet or Yukon Gold)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
Instructions
- Peel and cut the potatoes into 1-2 inch chunks. Discard the peels for a smoother finish.
- Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot to steam for a couple of minutes.
- Add butter and milk, and mash the potatoes until they reach your desired smoothness.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve warm, optionally adding a little extra butter on top.

For a richer flavor, experiment with adding garlic or cheese to the mash.
