Ingredients

  • 2 pounds potatoes (Russet or Yukon Gold)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Peel and cut the potatoes into 1-2 inch chunks. Discard the peels for a smoother finish.
  2. Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot to steam for a couple of minutes.
  4. Add butter and milk, and mash the potatoes until they reach your desired smoothness.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve warm, optionally adding a little extra butter on top.

Notes
