Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
  • 2 cups of heavy cream
  • 1 cup of gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of butter (for greasing the dish)
  • Optional: Fresh herbs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a casserole dish with butter.
  3. Peel and slice the potatoes thinly (1/8-inch thick).
  4. Mix the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
  5. Layer half of the potatoes in the greased dish, pouring half of the cream mixture over them, and sprinkling half of the Gruyère cheese.
  6. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and Gruyère cheese.
  7. Top with grated Parmesan.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  10. Let sit for a few minutes before serving, garnishing with fresh herbs if desired.
